Duane Jones is a native Tulsan who attended Booker T. Washington High School, graduating in 1969. Before graduating high school Duane had the chance to meet people like
Dr. John Hope Franklin, Muhammed Ali, Marian Anderson, Ralph J. Bunch, and Lionel Hampton.
Duane began his career in broadcasting at KVRO/KOSU in Stillwater in 1969. While there, he was the only reporter to get a one-on-one interview with U.S. Representative Adam Clayton Powell while
he was on campus. In 1970 Duane returned to the Tulsa area to work for KTOW-AM in Sand Springs as announcer, before moving to KRMG News Radio as field reporter and news anchor.
Duane was also employed in 1972 as news director for KKUL-FM as well as on-air-announcer until he went KTEW-TV (later KJRH-TV) in 1973.
There, he served as morning anchor and producer of the half-hour early news show, and also as a
field reporter and news photographer, editor and film processor.
Duane has had the opportunity to speak to various civic organizations in
Tulsa over the years, and has received awards from the Tulsa chapter of the NAACP and NCCJ. He was also one of the first to emcee the Miss Black Tulsa pageant and has worked with several big name entertainers in various capacities.
