Ken Delo
Ken Delo, a native of Detroit, began performing at a very early age doing magic, record pantomime and singing at school functions. After graduation, he sang with several dance bands in the Detroit area and soon was appearing on local TV shows and also heading his own USO company. Ken discovered the legitimate stage and did many musicals, comedies and dramas and won several theatre awards, including "Actor of the Year."
During an Army stint, he was given a special commendation for his military service as a performer under the auspices of the US Army public information office.
Upon release from the Army, Ken moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career. His very first audition landed him a job singing in the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, followed by a concert tour of Alaska in the middle of winter! Many singing and acting jobs followed, including TV and motion pictures.
During his first trip to Australia, Ken's appearances on TV and in supper clubs were so well received, that his 8-week booking became 6 months and then 3 more extended trips followed in which he made over 100 TV appearances and 3 specials of his own. During his 4th stay in Australia, Ken promoted, wrote and starred in his own weekly TV variety show. In this weekly series, Ken was able to show his versatility as a host, interviewer, singer, actor and comedian. The show won the Annual "Logie" Award for "Best National Variety Show," an award equal to the American "Emmy." He also hosted the TV game show, "Name That Tune," 5-days-a-week.
The temptation to stay in Australia was very strong but Ken was anxious to get going in his own country. He returned to the US and began working in nightclubs, TV, motion pictures and stage.
One of the TV shows he appeared on was "The Lawrence Welk Show." After three guest appearances, Mr. Welk asked Ken to be a regular performer on the weekly show, not only utilizing Ken's singing talent, but his comedy and M.C.'ing abilities as well.
Ken's versatility as a performer keeps him in great demand and many performance dates fill a very busy schedule for Ken Delo.
